yes, I was wondering if anyone knew an exact way to install windows xp on a hard drive. i formated my hard drive and am trying to install windows xp on it i tried to just use the formated hard drive by putting in the windows xp disk and letting it boot to the cd. but when i put it in it doesn't recognize the cd as a bootable cd and it sais there is no cd in the drive. i also tried to put my old hard drive with windows xp already on it in. and just put it in the cd when i 'm in windows and try to install it on the hard drive. but nothing seems to work and i can't find any information to help me. i would appreciate a detailed way to do it the best way. thank you very much

Did you enter your bios and set your cdrom drive to be your first boot device instead of your floppy drive? If you did that, you should restart your computer with the Windows XP disc in the cdrom drive and it should boot from the cd. It should start Windows XP setup. At least thats the way I did it.

For one thing you do not have to format prior to an XP install. Let XP handle the formatting and partioning.

Many of the 'Corporate' illegal copies of XP won't boot off the disc.

If you are using a legal copy you can get a file from MS that will create a 6 floppy disk start up set. Do a google search and choose ether Home of Pro.

    Hey Zeddy,

Somtimes it's best to let people learn how to search things out. You know the old teach a person to fish. Part of the whole computer experience.:)

    Hi MysticEyes,

To fish successfully, you need bait and to know where the fish are jumping!
