Check above the keyboard and see if there is a
    switch to activate the wireless.
If not,it may be a keyboard key combination.
You should be able to find the manual at the
    HP website support section.

And what happens when you right click on it in Device Manager and select 'Enable'?

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

What, if any, warnings or errors (yellow or red flags) are anywhere in Device Manager?

    umm...

    I don't think dell can help :D

HP/Compaq laptops has (usually) the wireless switch to the right of the power button. The icon should look like an antenna stick. It should be blue (on) or amber (off).

If the wireless card is not listed in Network Adapters, what do you see under Other Devices? If you don't see it at all, then your wireless card is defective.

What is the model number of your HP/Compaq machine? And to confirm you are using the internal wireless connection or an adapter that is connected via USB?

So now you've installed the latest driver from HP's web site and the wireless adapter appears under Network Adapters? If so, ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

    Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
