Greetings;

Just installed a new copy of Windows ME and need to varify a few things best checked in "safe mode"...It's been a while since using this OS last, but I always thought that "Control" key pressed down at mfgr's logo start screen would do it... am I just slow- or just using the incorrect key?

Many thanks for any and all information! (fyi...Pc is a Dell Dimension XPS)

Regards

I think you need to hit F8 while it is booting, although on some systems you will need to hit control + F8.

Hi webzter...

Methods for getting into safe mode for WinME...

1) To use the System Configuration Utility method
- Close all open programs
- Click "Start" button => Select "Run"
- Enter "msconfig" in "RUN" window
- In "System Configuration Utility" click "Advanced"
- In "Advanced Troubleshooting Settings" select/check "Enable Startup Menu"
- Click OK. Click OK again when the System Configuration Utility reappears
- Click "Yes" to reboot. Computer will restart in Safe mode
- When done go back into "System Configuration Utility" and deselect/uncheck "Enable Start-up Menu"
- Reboot computer

2) To use the F8 method
Restart the computer.
As the computer restarts, press and hold down the F8 key until the Windows 98 startup menu appears.
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu, and then press Enter. Windows starts in Safe mode.
