Hi,
Im just wondering there are any way to tell why my hard drive is being used so much when im not even doing anything nothing running but i hear it working hard. My CPU usage is at 0% being used. Im pretty sure i have indexing turned off. It happens randomly and when i go into "Windows Task Manager" > Performance > Resource monitor" the hard disk is being used at 100% and when i click to see whats being read/write its just random files i have stored away in a random folder and its being read for no reason.

Thanks.

I hope this makes sense to someone.

I could be wrong but I have read that Vista will run defrag in the background when your computer is on. That could be the activity you see.

Ah, is there any way to disable it?

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I just check and my automatic defrag is turned off. Doh

Open the table below the disk usage monitor and it shows what is reading and writing the drive.
