Can anyone help me get rid of unwanted home page & pop-ups. If have run NoAdware and HijackThis which shows all sorts of R0, R1, O2 and O4 lines in log file which means little to me.

These programs can't seem to fix these unwanted statements in registers however ? How to get rid of it ? Tx, Michiel

Hi MMorks, Welcome to TSG!! :)

Make a folder on your hard drive, like My Documents\HJT
Download the newer version of Hijackthis.
Unzip the file to the folder on your hard drive.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Try not to reboot until you get a response as this hijacker will change on reboot and we need to see your current log.

    Please do the following:

Rescan with Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log if you have rebooted since the last one you just posted.

Also Click here to download getservice.zip and unzip it to your desktop. Open the Getservice folder and click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up with a long list of Services. Please save that notepad file and attach it to your next reply to this thread. It will be easier to attach it rather than copy and paste because it will be too long to paste in one post.

After you post the next Hijack This log and the getservice list, it is very important that you not restart your computer or attempt to do anything to remove this until I have posted the removal directions because the files and the entries in HJT will change and we will have to start all over again. It would be best that you do nothing at all with the computer until you get the directions.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself. Housecall will detect the leftover files from this hijacker.

This hijacker is known to alter or delete certain files so check this out please:

Download the Hoster from here . UnZip the file and press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file.
Go here and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing your Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy)

Check in the C:\Windows\system32 folder to be sure you have a file named Shell.dll. If you do not have one, go to the C:\Windows\system32\dllcache folder.
Find shell.dll and right click on it. Choose Copy from the menu.
Open the System32 folder and right click on an empty space in the window. Choose Paste from the menu.

    control.exe may have been deleted.
See if control.exe is present in C:\windows\system32

If control.exe is missing,Click here to download control_xpsp1.zip.

Unzip the file and copy the new control.exe file to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

IMPORTANT!: Please check your ActiveX security settings. They may have been changed by this CWS variant to allow ALL ActiveX!! If they have been changed, reset your active x security settings in IE as recommended here.

When you are sure you are clean turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

    Hi,

I followed all instructions and all went well until AFTER the "Boot back into Windows" and checking "Turn off System restore" PARTS. The problem is that I can't get connected to the Internet anymore or download mail. In all I got to the point where it instructs to do an online virus scan right after restarting the computer for the first time.

I don't know if this new problem is related in any way to all the previous steps, which I reviewed again.. and again ... and ... . I now get the typical "unable to find e-mail server" in Outlook and sortlike message through IE... frustrating.

Anyways this stand in my way to complete the last page of instructions leaving me in the middle of things. With the little knowledge I have in this field I could verify that the inhouse lines, connection is ok, perhaps something changed in the XP settings along the way ... ?

Two specifics things I noticed whilst following the earlier steps:

    - AboutBuster from Rubber Ducky did Remove! quit alot of files (including many .exe files) from de windows directory.

    - In trying to fix the connection to my ISP server and proceed with the instructions I rechecked the services.msc in an attempt to turn back on the previously stopped "workstation netlogon service" ... however is now nolonger visible in the list of things .. related or not ?

Oh man, where to go from here ?

    Regards,
    Michiel

LspFix will fit on a floppy disk so you can put it on a floppy and run it on the affected machine.

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. (Don't do anything else)

    Then click Finish.

See if that restores the connection.

Still can't get connected to i'net anymore. The only change I can imagine that might be related is where i ran "services.msc" and had to disable and stop the "workstation netlogon service". Do you know if relevant and how i can restart this ? When running services.msc now this stopped service is no longer in the list of things ?!

The Workstation Netlogon Service was installed by the hijacker and removing it would have nothing to do with you connectivity.

This may sound dumb, but did you disconnect your cable or phone line according to my previous instructions? If so did you reconnect it?
