I actually have a printer hp 2600n and windows xp 64 bit.

I really regret to have XP 64 bit, worst version of Windows, nothing is compatible, I will install windows 7 or vista 64 in few weeks.

But at the moment I need to make a shared printer, so both, my sister and I can use the printer. Actualyl HP Printer 2600n isn't compatible with my windows version, so I installed it on my sister vista 64 bit laptop.

It's there a way to make it shared? We are both connected to the same router(both via cable).

    Thanks!

To set up printer sharing with the printer connected to a Vists computer.

    1. The computers must have unique names.
    2. The Work Group name must be the same for both computers. The Work Group name can be MSHOME (XP), WORKGROUP (Vista, 98SE, ME), or something else you select. It must be the same for all computers sharing resources.

Easiest thing is to change the XP to WORKGROUP.
Start, right click My Computer, selesct Properties from the list.
Select Computer Name tab, click Change button and replace MSHOME with WORKGROUP. Then click OK.
Restart the computer to make sure the changes take effect.

On the Vista computer in Network and Sharing center.
Network type is Private, not Public.
    Network discovery is on
    Printer sharing is on.
    Password Protected sharing is off.
May want to restsrt just to make sure changes take effect.

    On the XP computer.
Open My Network Places and click View Network Computers under Network Tasks..
Both the XP and Vista computers should be shown.
Click on the Vista computer to see if the printer shows.

You need to add the printer to the XP.

Start, Control panel, Printer and Faxes.
Click Add a printer. when the Wizard comes up click next.
Select a "Network Printer or a printer connected to another computer" and click next.
Select browse for a printer and click next.
A list showing the printer connected to the Vista should come up. wil be listed as \\Vistaname\printer name.
Click the printer name to highlight it and click next.
Warning wil come up about connecting to the printer and loading drives on your computer. Click Yes.
Do you want to use this printer as default printer? Click yes.
Install successful message wil come up. Click Finish.

Biggest problem will be the drivers on the Vista. I don't know if they will work with XP 64-bit..
