Create a second partition on the internal hard drive and install Windows Vista to there.

A usb drive is not as fast as a nornal hard drive, so Windows Vista will be slow. Why are you refusing to have Xp and Vista on the internal hard drive, it will be the easiest method. If the computer is powerfull enough, you could put Windows Vista onto a virtual computer.

While not completely stable that I know of cause I haven't played with it much.
I know they are actively working on it to stabilize it more.
Think BartPE for Vista.

WinBuilder is what you are looking for.
