i use 10 usb devices on one pc and sometimes one of them becomes unrecognized or just disapears from pc. in this case i am forced to unplug then replug all usb devices to make them recognizable again. my questions is: is there a way to name the ports or usbs some how so than i know exactly which one is broken and then i can only unplug and replug only that one device and not all?

Named or not, I would only unplug/replug the devices one at a time until the found the culprit. I would suspect it would be the same device each time, which would indicate a device, cable, or port issue.

thats the problem it changes every time. i cant keep doing this. the pc has to tell me which ones are working so that i know which one isn't.

Assign a permanent letter to a USB device:
http://www.addictivetips.com/window...-letters-to-a-removable-usb-drive-in-windows/

My husband uses 3 USB sticks and installs and removes them a lot. I assigned permanent letters to them and labelled the sticks so he knows when he copies files to which stick they are going.

NOTE: If you have partitions on your hard drive, more than one hard drive, one or more optical drives and an internal multi-card reader, be sure to start the letters way down on the alphabet so they don't conflict with other devices. Perhaps L or M as a starting letter.

If it's different each time, there is likely a USB controller issue. Or if you are using a hub (likely as you noted 10 devices), it could be a hub issue. I'd be looking to fix the issue, not make it easier to bandaid it.
