go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.
Click on the entry in start menu or on the desktop to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Mr, dvk01

I have done what ever you asked me to do, I will be happy if you suggest how can I remove, the additional Toolbar,
There is no name on the Toolbar it is not at all working, and more over it is occupying large space of web site and some time I get some un wanted pop up's.

I will NOT guarantee we can fix this one easily if at all on windows 98 but we can try

Download pocket killbox from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe & put it on the desktop where you can find it easily

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\se.dll/space.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\se.dll/space.html

O9 - Extra button: Scan and protect your PC - {BF69DF00-4734-477F-8257-27CD04F88779} - C:\Program Files\UnSpyPC\UnSpyPC.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

O21 - SSODL: IVzghabprqChq - {07075660-ADAD-FCCA-CEF1-9AC04D19AE02} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SXPFN.DLL

now Start killbox, go to options on the top bar and make sure remove directories is enabled and remove duplicates is UNCHECKED paste the first file listed below into the full pathname and file to delete box

The file name will appear in the window, select delete on reboot press the red X button, say yes to the prompt and NO to reboot now then repeat for each file in turn

[Note: Killbox makes backups of all deleted files & folders in a folder called C:\!killbox ] If Killbox tells you any files are missing don't worry but make a note and let us know in your next reply

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SXPFN.DLL
C:\Program Files\UnSpyPC\UnSpyPC.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DTOURS.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\install2.exe

C:\Program Files\WinHound\WinHound.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SE.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\BSOKM.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xsetup.dll

Then on killbox top bar press tools/delete temp files, in the pop up box select everything it will allow you to do

then reboot & when you have rebooted

Now we need to reset your hijacked DNS settings

To set your DNS, you need to find the Internet Protocol window.

For Users on a Dial-up Connection:
Go to My Computer>Dialup Networking.
Right-click your internet connection and select Properties.
A window will open - click the Server Types tab. Click TCP/IP Settings.

For All Other Users:
Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.
Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click Properties.

You will see a window - this is the Internet Protocol window. Select "Obtain DNS server automatically" and press OK

then

Download smitRem.exe

or HERE and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

then

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link under "Downloads/SpySweeper" to download the program.
  • Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
  • Click the Sweep Options tab.
  • Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:

    • [*]Sweep Memory
      [*]Sweep Registry
      [*]Sweep Cookies
      [*]Sweep All User Accounts
      [*]Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
      [*]Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
      [*]Sweep for Rootkits
    • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
  • Click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Post the contents of smitfiles.txt and the a new HJT log and the spysweeper report .
Let us know if any problems persist.

Why i am hearing Dial-up (plus) sound every 1 minute once, weather I am connected to web or not, even when i am working on Microsoft i keep on hearing this Dial-up sound.
Previously i was not hearing this sound.

My second problem ?
I have a Red colour cross mark on the task bar on the right hand side corner, when i placed my mouse pointer on that, it shows "your Computer is Infected" but i have cleared all the adware infected,
How to remove this Red colour icons.

is your PC still connected to a telephone?

Maybe you're still infected.
Till an expert checks in here ... One thing they usually ask for – is to run a few online virus scans -
Here's three you can try ....

Symantec …..
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=HSHXXLPXHJRZDTVSAGA

Kaspersky …..
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
choose extended database for the scan!

Panda ActiveScan ….
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Then you might want to install Ewido, and have it scan you system.

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please do the following:

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Even when i am not connected to internet & working in MS office even then also my modem will keep on dialing some number.
