I received an urgent message under a friends name in an email. This message warned me about a virus she may have passed on to me. I was directed to delete SULFNBK.exe immediately or lose my hard drive. The message said the virus was slow working and so would not be picked up by Norton or McAfee antivirus programs. Since it was someone I knew , I deleted . Then I sent the warning to those I had contacted and learned this was a hoax. Later I learned that my friend had not even sent it, although I can't see how someone could have used her name to me. My server tells me I deleted something essential to Windows 98 and suggested going on the net to find out how to replace it. Please help me.

    Hi dewen1,

We are on the same boat. I just did the same thing as you did and so I am also seeking advice as how to replace this.

Is this gonna have disastrous effect or harm?

Hope someone out there could help and would appreciate very much.

    Thanks a lot Wino!

Just one more question: in the future if I receive the same virus alert messages like this one, what sources or help sites will I be able to verify and confirm whether this is a hoax or not; apart from the one I was given already; since there might be a diverse range of viruses? thanks so much.

So where do I go for help? I thought this was a MSN help department. What do I do to replace SULFNBK.exe ?Are there any technicians to help members? I'm not interested in hearing from other poor snooks who were hoaxed like myself unless they found a way to repair the damage done.

    Dewen1,

You seem to misunderstand what this board is about.

We are not a part of MSN, but just a collection of computer users like yourself.

The nice thing about this, is that the collective experience of the members usually allows you to find solutions to computer problems faster, than you would otherwise.

I don't think that you categorizing the people who have been willing to help you solve this as 'poor snooks', will encourage others to rush to your assistance.

However, let's assume that this is just due to a misunderstanding on your part...

Here's a MS article which will explain this, and tell you how to solve it: Description of Sulfnbk.exe and How to Replace the Program File

    Good luck,

Did you look in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND ? It should be there if it was extracted correctly.
