My 14 month old two thousand dollar Gateway laptop just went belly up - I think it's a power problem and that the harddrive is ok, at least I'm praying for that. (I can't believe that I was so stupid about backing up - I nag everyone I know to do it regularly, and then I don't.) I'll send the machine in for repair but I urgently need some docs from it - is there a way to patch the laptops drive into my desktop? A friend suggests USB to USB and says it'll show up as another drive letter in My Computer. I wonder about a cable ribbon and call it a slave? Am I dreaming?

You can buy an adapter to slave it to pc hdd or you can buy a usb enclosure for it for a few dollars.
