I have Vista as my OS and I use IE and Outlook 2000.
Whenever I click an email link in IE, Windows Mail opens.
When I try to set Outlook 2000 as the default email client from Internet Explorer I get a 'Set your default programs' dialog box which does not list Outlook 2000. Any thoughts ?
Thank you very much for that .. a very useful input/site.
The reason I wanted to set Outlook as the default email client was because when clicking on e-mail links on web pages it launches Windows Mail.
It seems that the fixes he supplies cannot change this behavior; it says that it cannot make Outlook the default e-mail provider for the MAILTO protocol.
The problem is that when Windows Mail opens it downloads any outstanding emails; therefore I end up with my emails split between two Inboxes.
Well a work around would be to mess up your email settings in windows mail then
I think if you have made outlook 2000 the default mail program like he said that should resolve the issue for the mailto links, but I guess not. Gee, could microsoft be trying to push you to the latest office version you think? Sorry I can't help you any further
Hi, thanks for the response, it did help me ... and I think I will do as you suggest by trying to cripple the ability of Windows Mail to download my emails.
