start the computer when up and running pop in the disk
a clean install is the recommended option
before you do this start by collecting all the required xp drivers before you start
    to do a clean install
set the comp. to boot from cd first in the bios
pop in the xp cd and reboot
    and choose install

Make sure your puter is able to run XP. Cpu speed and ram are the main things to look at. Min requirements are 500 mhz cpu and 128meg of ram.But even then it will run slow. Optimal specs are 800mhz cpu or higher and 256meg of ram, 512 meg is better
