Is there any way to have the cell properties change based on the outcome of a formula? I.E. If a cells formula is =sum(a1*b1), is there any way to have the cell shaded, font changed, etc. if the value is over a certain value?

Yes, it is called conditional formatting. Look in Excel Help to see how to use it.
