I have a Hewlett Packard computer and it came with a HP CD-Writer+ 8000 model CD-RW drive. It USED to work perfectly, now apparently it isn't spinning fast enough to keep up with the data being sent. I get an error saying something like "Data transfer too fast" or something and it closes, ruining the CD and leaving me frustrated. PLEASE help me out here. Music is my life.

The writer has to spin at a designated speed or the CD will be screwed up. You would get a different message if the recorder wasn’t spinning fast enough.

You aren’t giving much in the way of details of how you are recording or what. Or with what software.

Ctrl+Alt+Del and remove everything except Explore, Systray and the burning software.

If your major use for the burner is music, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall DirectCD. If you have the original version that came with the burner it can cause problems.

If you don’t already have it, get the latest version of the freeware version of AdAware and run it. Spyware can take enough CPU cycles to cause burning problems: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Also run an online virus check if you don’t have up to date anti-virus software: There are several available, this is one: http://housecall.antivirus.com/

This has happened to me before with an older burner. Try putting the burner speed higher in the settings (from 1x to 2x worked for me) but for newer burners try 8x to 16x.

How long does it take before it does this?
