My firm has an ancient ColorJet 5M that we use. It's connected to the network using internal JetDirect card.

We had some problems and had to get a new card.

I followed the instructions on HP's web site site for a cold reset, but the dang thing still refuses to cooperate.

We are running Windows XP and I have an image of the config page below.

Can anyone help me get this working again?

Thanks in advance,

This one should be easy. Is this on the same network as your production machines. I.E. not in another subnet somewhere?

Then what you want to do is open a command prompt and type in route add 192.0.0.192 X.X.X.X (where X.X.X.X is your computers ip address).

After it says the route was added then you type in telnet 192.0.0.192.

This connects you into your jetdirect to program it.

In there do a / or a ? and hit enter to get a list of all commands (these commands are different for different jetdirect cards so if you want speicifics you need to tell me the exact jetdirect your using).

In there you want to take it of BootP and put it to manual input and hten you need to then assign it all your network information as well.

The items I would have handy and be sure to setup are -
IP-CONFIG: Manual <--- not bootp
IP:
Subnet mask:
Gateway:

Also one last thing to remember exit allows you to close out of the program and save the changes quit will not save anything.

Once you have this IP hardcoded you just need to set this ip up on your PC's to be the port to print to.

Thanks for your help.

We got it to work, but the Firm decided that it was time for a new color printer. One that is faster than 1 page/minute.

Now we have an HP4650. My only complaint so far is that it doesn't handle 11x17 paper.

We'll see how this one goes.

Again, thanks for all the help.
