In safe mode - you are getting the desktop and no icons?

    Try safe mode command prompt.
Tap f 8 while your system is starting up.
Choose safe mode with command prompt.
    Log on as an admin.
    At command prompt type
    %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

    This will launch System Restore.
Choose a date prior to the problem.

While you are checking the memory...
Remove Ram..Video cards from their slots

Plug in the RAM [one stick at a time].
    Also try different slots.
    Ensure it is seated correctly.
    Reseat Video card.

Check Hard drive and Motherboard connections [IDE]
Take them off and reseat them.

Inspect the case for dust etc.
Remove the dust..do not use a vacuum cleaner

Check that the processor fan rotate.
