I ran a system diagnostic and the harddrive failed the quick test with the error code "PGF3GF-8B89K4-XD4F6K-60TE03" The disk is always running 100% in the task manager and I'm not sure what to do to fix it.

Just as a quick check, open up a command prompt, enter the following command, and then hit the Enter key: wmic diskdrive get status

This checks the SMART status of your hard drive. If you receive any messages other than OK, this would indicate to me the drive is failing. If so, try and back up your personal files immediately (if you haven't done so already), since there's every chance you could lose them if the drive fails completely.

The fact it's failing the quick test and it's running at 100% in Task Manager is still a matter of concern. Do you have backups of your personal files? What about any applications?

I dont have any personal files on my device that I would be afraid to lose, just some games that I could get back at any time. It has nearly half a terabyte of open space left, and when I search the error code online there isn't any information on it.

To be absolutely sure of what the code means before taking further measures, you could always contact HP Support and furnish them with the code.

HP wants to charge $60 just to explain what the code means without fixing it and then I'd also have to pay for them to fix it as well as any paers needed. I was hoping to figure things out without spending hundreds of dollars on a PC that's only worth $500

That's a ridiculous fee when they have the information to hand! It's your call, obviously, so you could consider a wait & see approach to determine if the drive will actually fail, or purchase a replacement and then reinstall the OS and your applications.
