I have a spare PC that I want to setup but will not boot. HP a804n,MB MS-6577 ver4.1, Celeron D 335 2.8Ghz, RAM 512MB PC2700. PSU is 250watts. I tested PSU on the bench and all pins are good. HHD is 20GB and is good,WinXP. Tried another HDD with same results. On power up it runs for 3 or 4 seconds and shuts down. The only sound is the fan, nothing on the monitor. I disconnected power to CD drives and floppy, same results. Tried another PSU, same results.

I recently had this problem with my PC and after googling around, found a very good article about Troubleshooting a PC that Won't Bootup. I suggest you take a look at it – it helped me to resolve my issue.
