    hello everyone :)
Currently, i am using a sony vaio VGN-NR21S, running on windows 7 ultimate(32-bit).

When i was playing a game, suddenly my pc crashed and showed a sort of a green screen..

A little while later, i managed to get the pc working again,
But now, everytime i start it up,
It shows blue vertical bars/lines that appear all over the screen!
They also appear in the BIOS..

But as soon as the windows 7 loading screen comes, it vanishes.

Anyhow, i didn't think it mattered too much..

Untill i started seeing the following problems:

All of a sudden, when i typed 'Dxdiag', a lot of things were GONE!
My Nvidia drivers just vanquished! now it says the following:

    """
    Name: Standard VGA graphic adapter
    Chiptype: NVIDIA
    DAC-Type: 8 bit
    total memory: N/A
    current displaymode: 1280x800 (32-bit) (1Hz)
    ---
and in the column to the right, the first thing says 'Vga'.
    """

Also i had noticed that ALL of the directX functions suddenly show N/A.
I can't even enable them since that button is not there :(

So i tried it out, and it was true, NONE of my games were able to be played..

Anyhow, i tried reinstalling my Nvidia drivers.. But none of it seemed to work..
I have NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400M GT GPU.
I downloaded the correct driver, but my computer then says that my drivers are not compatible or something..

I've also tried un-installing the drivers by using Driver Sweeper, also, without succes :(

Is There ANY way to get my DirectX and video card back up again? :(

Thanks so much if you can help me!
    I've been googleing for ages!

    regards.

I think you have been hit by something but have you tried to update drivers through Device Manager?

At the risk of insulting your intlligence how did you go about updating in device manager?
I just found out recently that you have to go further than this to really check completely.
Device manager>expand sound video and etc>click update driver>install automatically recommended.
I have always got that stock answer when doing it this way. Could not find driver any better than one you have.

i have tried navigating to my NVIDIA folder, going onto every version that was there,
    Such as:
    190.62 Win7
    197.16 Win7

    after those two didn't work,
i simply selected my C:\ drive and made him search there,
Then again, same result, and i got: you're drivers are already up to date.

then i tried searching online, and same thing happend..
Then for the sounds driverts etc, none of them seem to display any problems?

    Is that what you asked?

FWIIW. I was talking going further in Device manager.

Click install from a list or specific location >next
Don't search I will choose driver to install.
If you see one with a later date than the one you have highlight it.

    ooh cool,
Well i found what you meant, thanks for that :)
Now i can see one thing i can highlight for VGA..
But when i select the non-compatible list, then i can select the NVIDIA,
But i don't know if it's safe since it says the computer can stop working :s

Well I can't advise you about that. I have limited computer knowledge. There are some smart
cookies here. Surely one will jump in here and help you further.

haha, thank you for now :)

    So for the others,
For VGA standard ones, theres ONE thing clickable there..

And when i uncheck the compatibility box,
    I can go to NVIDIA,
And i get a huge list.. but what now?

EDIT: in the list, i can only find for Geforce: 8400,8400GS,8400SE,... Which should i take?
