Got a Windows XP machine here, and the fonts are huge on it - the strange thing is it (now) has all the settings correct - standard Windows XP theme, bars all sized correctly, correct resolution, correct font sizes etc. It has just had Welchia removed, so that may be the cause, but I've never seen that before.

Also, is that the right font even?

Nortons is up-to-date and doesn't detect anything else. And also, the system is incredibly slow (even for a 1Ghz Celeron).

Thanks for any help.

(Screenshot of offending comp attached - it's at 1024*768)

Some Accessibility settings in Windows XP may cause this symptom.

1. Click Start and choose Control Panel.
2. Click the Accessibility Options link and then click Accessibility Options again.
3. Click the Display tab and confirm that the "User high Contrast" item is UNCHECKED. If it is checked, uncheck it and click Apply and Ok.

might be nothing, but in IE you can change the font size of the screen by holding CTRL down and move the wheel mouse scroller thingy (if you have a wheel mouse). That will change the font size, though since I'm not at home right now I cannot confirm if this will work in Win XP desktop.

Also you might want to check in the Taskbar Properties screem that Large Font is disabled.

The only thing I can think of is that the color theme scheme is changed so you will need to create a new theme and see if it will stick to the fonts you specify

You could also restore to a point before the welchia worm got hold of your system.

Right click on the desktop and select properties then appearance. In the bottom dropdown menu choose normal and click apply

Right click Desktop > select Properties > Appearance Tab > Advanced Button > and use the scroll control on the Item field and select Icon. Verify that it now says Tahoma Font and size 8, if not change it and OK out of there. Remember ALL the other items on that scroll list so you can adjust as needed later. Yeah right. :)

Good luck

I think I might have cracked it .... All the settings in the Advanced button as above were too large but made no difference when I changes them - font still too large and icons too big etc. Had a look through the Advanced settings and noticed the DPI display settings were set to large size. Changed them back to Normal and all seems well.

Thanks for your help people ....

Will check again Monday when I get to work - must be time for a day off tomorrow!!!

Thx again

Tony
