my seagate momentus xt 2.5 won't work in my gateway dx4822 desktop. The fan just spins for a second & the desktop computer won't turn on.

    as what
    OS drive
    data drive

If by this you mean the computer will not even boot
then either the drive connections are bad or the drive itself is bad causing a dead short on its power connection

Will the computer boot without the drive connected
A computer does not need a drive connected to post

Does that hard drive work elsewhere or are you trying to test it with the desktop ?

Either or when it's plugged in for data or os. The computer won't turn on even with the other hdd in there. But the computer works fine without the hybrid plugged in.

is this drive being connected internally in a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter or is it being used USB
and what is on the drive
It is very unlikely that the problems are connected with the PSU unless of course you know the PSU to be unsuitable, as on boot demand is minimal

which model of Seagate momentus is it please

please post the result of this for the Gateway

Yes I've tried another sata connection. I seek & destroyed that. I'm guessing that I need a more powerful psu? 500 instead of 300 watts?

is the drive connected on its own dedicated SATA power from PSU
or on molex to sata adapter

and what data or OS is on the Seagate please

If it was not seeing the drive there are a few possible reasons for that. However for it to stop the computer from even completing a post, I go back to what I said at first, one suspects a power issue and I do not mean on the PSU itself
