    My computer has been slow for over a week. I have been scanning with Norton, spybot, and ad-aware. I would appreciate any help. Sometimes, my computer just seems to freeze up and not bring up anything that I click on. My computer is a new Dell--windows xp--I am fairly new to trying to solve these things on my own, but I am trying to learn. Thanks, Rhonda

    Well im not very good with HijackThis Logs and so i wont bother i suggest cleaning out your cookies and temporary files as well as history. This means go to mycomputer>>right click on your drive>>click on properties then click on diskcleanup and check everything. and let it remove all the unneccesary things. Also make sure you don't have a lot of start up items. go to start>run>msconfig>click on startup tab and uncheck everything you dont need. Also make sure you have updated every windows update *critical*. Try a trend Micro online scan link in my signiture. Run and update spy-bot and ad-aware then scan and clean. also look at this site.
    http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm
    that should help you speed it up.

    You say it's a new dell? How new? The reason that I ask that it may be a hardware issue and Dell can repair it if it's in warranty.

    Also this can be removed:

    Run HJT again and put a check:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = http://localhost;

    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZSzeb029

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{EEABFA0C-6F83-45BF-92C3-E257D54F9542}: NameServer = 12.160.140.10,12.160.140.11

    Close all browser windows and applications before clicking "fix checked".

    Reboot

    I ran the Hijack this again and deleted the three items in the previous post and I was unable to access the internet. I restored everything and I was able to access everything again. I was wondering if the R1-HKCU.....Local Host was something I should keep. What are the other items? It freezes up at times and then it seems to be quicker. Are there any more details that I can provide to help?? Thanks, Rhonda

    Please take another look. I have deleted three things from the log that were mentioned. I have ran Norton, spybot, and ad-aware and nothing showed up for the first time on all three. My computer still is not fast, takes a long time after clicking on something to get anything to come up. I have cleaned the disk, did the critical windows updates, and did the above scans. Thanks for looking and any additional help is appreciated. Rhonda

    I just had to restore my computer again to a previous date. I think deleting the items on the log file keeps me from accessing the net. After I delete, I am unable to get on the net or check my e-mail. Rhonda

    I think the )17 cybertech suggested to remove is for your internet connection. If you remove it you will lose connection.

    The first post is what my log is now. The second one is after I deleted three items that were mentioned in a post and then I restored it back to the first log. I called Dell Tech and we checked on some things and it didn't speed it up much. Thanks, Rhonda
