i have a computer that flashes the blue windows 98 screen and then goes to the dos c:/ prompt. i cannot format by typing fdisk or format or fdisk c: or format c:......it says bad command or filename. when i place my windows 98 cd in the cd-rom i cannot change the drive. it acts like its not detecting the cd-rom or it does not have a label. how do i install windows 98 onto this computer? i appreciate any suggestions

What OS r u runnin on the pc ur on now ?? The recommended preference for the type of startup disk is to use one that is of the same OS that u r installin. Though u probaly could use a winMe startup disk that was created from another pc.

There are also sites online where you can download a file to create various boot disk types for specific OS's. Which method would u prefer to use ?

Also, that is why u can't change to ur cdrom drv. Dos can't see it from the command prompt unless you hav the Ram Drv utility loaded into memory present on the 95B/98/Me Startup disks. The utility is provided by "OAK".
