I am trying to help a friend out. So I got her computer which at first would allow you to log on as Admin, which is the only account on the computer (Windows XP). I know it was admin as I had fixed her computer before, but she was stupid and uninstalled Avast. So then her computer would allow log in, then apply settings, show her desktop wallpaper, then log right back out. Same exact thing in safe mode. So I do a checkdisk from a boot CD, it didn't help. Then I do a windows Repair. This allowed me to log in. I was able to install Avast and SuperAntiSpyware. Both found and removed many things. Now neither find any spyware or viruses.

My problem is that I do not appear to have full admin rights. It won't let me uncheck this file called F8F8F6F7FCF8FD.exe. Looks like hex code for some program name. It says An Access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using and Admin account to make the specific changes. But I am admin, I can even create more admin accounts.

Here is my Hijack this log. No idea what it all means. Can I just tell it to fix ALL problems? Some look legit.

    Thanks

You don't have permssions to uncheck that file, but you may be able to do it anyway with:

    Startup Control Panel
Startup Control Panel (Exe version for Vista)

If you still don't have permission, try installing gtools.exe. Start grootshell and then start either msconfig or Startup CPL from there. It will give you a system prompt from which you can perform tasks that the administrator is not allowed.

Did you look under all the tabs?

    Here's the link to grootshell:

    http://p-nand-q.com/gtools/gtools-0.10.exe

Is F8F8F6F7FCF8FD.exe in msconfig still? It is not listed in your log anywhere. Does the file exist (Search)?
