Ok I have a situation here and I do not know where to turn but to you guys. You have all been so helpful in the past. NOW I have a new dilema.. I have a system I would like to let my children use. It is an old system but I am thinking I may be able to upgrade pretty cheap to get what they need it for. If you would give your opinions I would greatly appreciate it. This is all the info I could find:

    Packard Bell
    Phoenixbios ver 4.03
    0000640K system ram passed
    0011264K extended ram passed
    CPU P24T
    75 MHz (!)
    System memory 640 KB
    Extended Memory 11MB
    C428MB
    DOS
    Windows for workgroups 3.1
Intel Plug and Play bios extensions release 1.1u

Is it in any possible way worth saving for an 8 yr old and three almost 5 year olds?????

    Can't wait!!! :)

    It's a pentium 75 with 12 megs RAM, 428 meg hard drive.

I wouldn't spend a penny on it. About all you could do is
add some RAM chips, maybe an aftermarket CPU upgrade
(if you can find one). No other motherboard will fit since
it's a Packard Bell. You may even run into problems with
    a larger hard drive.

I'd let the kids play with it like it is. Packard Bell usually
came with a pretty good game pack. It's not gonna run
any games much past Doom I and II anyway. They'll
probably have a blast with it...

    Cheers, Mac :)

I doubt the computer is worth what Windows 9x
would cost, plus it take a minimum of around 100
megs of your hard drive (my Windows 95 is 205
megs, not counting "Program Files"). So we're
talking 1/4 to 1/2 of your hard drive space just
    for the OS.

Also, Packard Bell was notorious for using things like
modem/sound combination cards, onboard video, etc.
which could turn an OS upgrade into a nightmare, and
it would be extremely slow with only 12 megs of RAM.

If you just don't think the computer will do as is,
you'd probably be better off buying another one.
The pentium 66 and 75 were the first steps past
    the old 486...

BTW, you can probably use the monitor on another
    system if you want.

    Cheers, Mac :)
