Trojan horse Downloader Zlob.ACZS

I have a Dell 1300 laptop running Xp with S.P. 2

I ran AVG Free ( it’s the only AV programme I have ) and found” Trojan horse Downloader Zlob.ACZS” which it put into the virus vault and I later deleted it when I found the machine ran just fine without it.

Before this post I have tried using Ad-Adware 2008,Spybot search and destroy, Housecall followed by McAfee Stinger nothing critical was found by those programs just Sptbot who found tracking cookies and a change to I.E’s security settings !!!…all put right or removed. I don't know what IE settings were changed I allowed Spybot to correct the prob

I have installed “Zone Alarms Firewall” before this I just relied on the Windows XP one.

The machine seems to be running ok but am I clean? Repeated AVG full computer scans show no threats, is there a Trojan Horse or something these programs can’t see ?

I enclose my HJT log and just hope someone can to help me.

As you may guess I am a beginner

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. alternate link 1 alternate link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.

Did all you said but the Anti-malware prog ( or maybe me ! ) put what it found into quarantine and I deleted it from there.
It found Trojan.Zlob plus two others, I didn't record the details because I thought the log would.

Prior to your reply I ran;

Adware 2008
McAfee stinger
Spybot
Housecall Anti-Virus

None of theses found Zlob just tracking cookies

The machine is running just fine does that mean all is ok?

Thank you again for the help, hope I did everything ok

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {4ED9DDF0-7479-4BBE-9335-5A1EDB1D8A21} -

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Looks fine. Any problems?

The log looks fine.

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after removing malware and create a new restore point.
Turn off system restore, restart the machine and then turn it back on: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405

Now you should Clean up your PC

Here are some additional links for you to check out to help you with your computer security.

Hi,

Working my way through your suggestions and so far all is going well and I’m learning loads!
I would like to express my most sincere thanks for your help, where would people like me be without your site.
I just need to figure out how to mark this “closed” and then I intend to read the forums on a regular basis.

Very best wishes

Sea Bird
