Hi, here is what you should do first>

Would like to have you post a log from HijackThis, a program (very tiny) that we use to see what problems exist.

There are directions here to do it: There are .zip form and .exe form, take your pick.

    Download it here:

    http://radiosplace.com/

    Or here.

It's a direct download so be ready with the folder for it.

Basically, you create a new folder, the desktop is OK provided you make a folder, name it something like HJT, and download TO that folder, run hijackthis.exe from there. If there are users of the computer who might start HJT and use it, hide the program in a folder elsewhere!

First open a reply here in your thread to have it ready.
    Run Hijackthis.exe, and
Select the "Scan and save a log" button...

When it is done scanning> the Save box will become available, save the log as hijackthis.txt which will open with Notepad. Hit the EDIT> Select All then the EDIT>Copy button at the top of your log, Go back to TSG, and click once in the blank reply space, then go to the top of your browser window and select EDIT>Paste.
Please do NOT use HJT yourself to remove anything, most of what it shows is good and needed by the system.

And, let us know if you do have the latest builds of these 3 programs installed> AdAware SE personal edition v. 1.05 AND SpyBot Search and Desroy v. 1.3 AND Microsoft's Beta Antispyware program.

    Hi,

Check in Control Panel> Add/Remve Programs, and uninstall something like this if it appears:

    WinAdTools

    MediaMotor

See this> """The following is from the Wind Updates website
Just follow the removal instructions you see below in bold.

    What is AdTools Service?
    ---------------------
AdTools Service is free ad delivery software which provides targeted advertising offers.

How did AdTools Service get installed on your computer?
    ----------------------------------------------------
You downloaded AdTools Service from a Website that is able to offer its content for free because
it shows the AdTools Service ActiveX popup. The Wind Update program is installed only once the user
has agreed on it by clicking on “yes”. Through the ActiveX, the user can review the license terms
and privacy policy before installing the software. Each and every distributor is carefully reviewed
to make sure that their distribution techniques abide by a strict code of conduct.

If you do not remember having seen an ActiveX prompt, you might have downloaded AdTools Service from a
popular free software product (screensavers, games, file sharing software, etc.). Users always will
have to opt-in before installing the AdTools Service software.

    Removal instructions:
    ---------------------
AdTools Service supports many free software products through its advertising relevancy technology.
If you remove AdTools Service from your system, certain free software that you installed may no longer
function properly and you may have to reinstall them from a backup.

If you are sure that you want to remove AdTools Service from your computer just follow these two easy steps:

    1) Click Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

    2) Scroll to AdTools Service and click Remove"""

    So, do that... and NEXT:

Fix the items I have listed below in your next Scan with Hijackthis: when you have them all checked, click "Fix checked":
You might not have all of them now....

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [popuppers64] C:\WINDOWS\a64sddd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdTools Service] C:\Program Files\AdTools Service\AdTools.exe

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com

Now you will have to boot to Safe Mode> in case you do not know how, here: When you restart the computer, as you first see text onscreen, quickly start tapping the F8 key, eventually you will get the startup menu, with your arrow key select "Safe Mode" (only) and hit Enter key once. Give it plenty of time to get to the desktop.

The Internet and this post will not be available to you, so print out the steps or copy and paste them to a Notepad text file and save it to your desktop so you have it handy.

Now, do what is in the quote box:

Now, the trick is to navigate to the folders holding the files shown at the ends of the lines, and delete the files:

    C:\WINDOWS\a64sddd.exe <delete the files

    C:\Program Files\AdTools Service\AdTools.exe <same

    Now, Delete the folder:
    C:\Program Files\AdTools Service

Empty the Recycle Bin, restart and you will be back to regular Windows....start up AdAware and get the latest detection updates if any are available, and do a full scan...same for the other antispyware proggies you have...

Restart between scans. Post a new log when you are done.

Hi, Well, that's good news...sometimes this stuff will come back. Hope not, but you may use this thread again if the problem is spyware junk...

I think you should still do the System Restore cleanout routine, as you do not want to have to use an infected Restore Point: here is some info about that.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001111912274039?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

And, here are the steps involved:

    Please do the following:

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.Wait for hourglass to stop and it says
    "Turned Off"

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

You may want to wait a day or so to do that.

You can mark your thread "Solved" by using the Thread Tools button here at the top of the page. Good work! (y)

Hi, Have a look at this for some help with that item:

    http://animeboards.com/showthread.php?p=537802030#post537802030

But I don't believe that is the whole problem.

We still need to remove some things>

Make the changes in either SpyBot's startup manager or msconfig as above. You will have to restart, that's OK>

    Download Killbox:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip and unzip it to have ready, on the desktop.

    Run Hijackthis in normal mode:

Put checks next to these and then click "Fix checked"

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [popuppers64] C:\WINDOWS\a64sddd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdTools Service] C:\Program Files\AdTools Service\AdTools.exe

Restart to Safe Mode> F8 key, tap qucickly several times when text appears at restart> select Safe Mode> Hit Enter key once....

See if MediaMotor is a running Process/Task and also
the other files...End them if they are.

Right click DelDomains.inf and select "Install".

Run Killbox.exe >> Select the Delete on Reboot option.
In the Full Path of File to Delete field paste this path and click the red circle with the white X in it(when it asks you to reboot, click NO.): ((since you are going to have more than just one to delete: ))

    C:\Program Files\AdTools Service\AdTools.exe

Select the Delete on Reboot option.
In the Full Path of File to Delete field paste this path and click the red circle with the white X in it(when it asks you to reboot, click YES.

    C:\WINDOWS\a64sddd.exe

Your computer will restart and check if the file was deleted.

Run your antispyware programs and antivirus.

Run Hijackthis again and post that new log.

If they still come back, I will have a moderator check this and perhaps have you do some other "surgery".
