I have Windows XP.
My husband was on the computer and looking at something in google.
When he was done and went back to our home page our windows search box was gone from our toolbar and in place of it at the top of the screen is a google search box which we don't like. I am computer illiterate when it comes to knowing what to do to get it back. This is the first time we have ever lost our search box.
Pls. help!

Thank you.

If you are using IE, there should be a down arrow button (the tooltip should be Search Options when you hover the mouse over it). Click on the arrow to open up a menu in which should list any available search engines (like Google or Live Search, for example) as well as well as which one is set as the default. Near the bottom of the list should be a selection to "Change Search Defaults...".

If you are using Firefox, it is a similar process (but much easier and quicker, as it will natively remember which search engine you choose and will keep that same one when a new window is opened). To the left of the search field, there should be the current search engine's logo (a "G" for Google, a red "Y!" for Yahoo!, etc.) with a down arrow next to it. Click on the arrow to open a similar list as explained above for IE to change the search engine.

Thanks for the quick response. I went into the internet options. I went into the Internet Options - Change Search Defaults and clicked on settings. But I'm not sure what to do from there. I'm afraid I'll click on things I shouldn't. Can you possibly guide me thru the rest of the way to get my search box back? Thanks!!

Hi - Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear when I sent my original request. The Search Box I am trying to get back is an actual box with the word "Search" in it, and next to it is where you type in what you want to go into on the internet. To the right of that is a little box with an arrow pointing down that you can click on and it shows all the items that you have looked at on the internet for that past week or so. When we got our first computer about 3 yrs ago the geek squad set everything up for us and put in that Search box. We especially miss it since we also lost the "box" with the arrow as it
allowed us to pull up items up quickly that we had just looked at fm the internet.
Can you help me get the above back? Thanks

I sure appreciate you guys taking the time to e-mail me back so quickly. I wish
I had been clearer fm the beginning about the above search box and arrow box.

Go to add/remove programs

and remove the google toolbar program. This is some times automatically installed if you install a new peice of software and if you don't like it, remove it. Hope this helps

Hi SpriteBoy

Were you able to resolve this yet?
I have attached a screen shot of Internet Explorer 7.

Did you lose the window I have selected or the Address bar to the left of the Search window?
If you press the F11 key does that make a difference? If not, press the F11 key again to toggle the view.

Thanks for all your help. I think I will take my lap top computer to Best Buy and
let one of their Geeks put the Search box back in since they originally set it up.
I sure appreciate all the help you guys have tried to give me.
