Dear Tech Guy: I read an old posting by Penny Honey where you solved her problem with uninstalling Inbox. I followed your advice and found the little arrow, but Inbox is not next to it and I cannot uninstall Inbox. None of the search engines attached to the arrow includes Inbox and I really would like to remove it from my computer altogether. Additionally, when I clicked on the "Uninstall Inbox" website, the site actually used Web Crawler in its place and I uninstalled Web Crawler. Can you help? Thank you.

Another way to do it in Firefox:

Type about:config into browser address bar and press Enter.

Type inbox in the filter box.

Right-click on the items listed, and choose Reset from the menu.

Thank you so much for your reply. I followed your instructions, and to my shock,"Inbox" is not listed with the other search engines, although every time I click on the "Firefox" icon I get "Inbox".Because "Inbox" is not on this list, I cannot delete it. Can you help? I am at my wit's end with this. Sincerely, Euphrates

Thank you for writing to me. When I typed "about:config" in the browser address, I received a warning from my computer system that I might be voiding my warranty and not to take this step unless I really knew what I was doing. Since I am, literally, computer illiterate, this message frightened me. Do you have other recommendations? Thank you, Euphrates.

"about:config" is a normal function to use in Firefox but needs to be used with caution.

It allows you to change some settings to your Firefox profile, similar to the Windows registry.

Used properly, it's perfectly safe.

Thank you so very, very much! Your directions worked! What a relief! I can retrieve my Firefox now without "Inbox" staring back at me. Thank you for your patience. Sincerely, Euphrates. PS What a wonderful site "Tech Guy" is. Happy holidays.

You're welcome! :)
Dear Tech Guy; I now have a new Inbox-related problem. I answered what I believed was a Microsoft ad for PC Cleanup to get rid of Inbox before I found you. I clicked on to use the Cleanup and clicked on "fix problem." Now when I open my computer, the screen presents me with a "Do you want the computer to make changes with this program?" I don't need it anymore, but I can't get rid of the message on the screen. Can you help me? Thank you.

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
2- Run the program.
3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.
4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.
6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

===================================================================

1- Run HijackThis again.
2- Click on Open The Misc Tools section from the Main Menu.
3- Click on Open Uninstall Manager.
4- Click on Save list...
5- Save the text file to the desktop.
6- Copy and paste the log from Notepad into your next reply.
