i have an HP Pavillion 8756c, with no boot disk, and a wiped hard drive. i cannot get the cd with windows millenium edition to load. i can load 98, but i cant get the right driver for the ethernet card, making it very difficult to obtain other correct drivers thatdont install properly (display, sound, ect.) ive tried using 98 and ME boot disks from bootdisk.com, but im having no luck. i went into BIOS and set it to look for the CD ROM to boot first from, and it just says "invalid system disk press any key to continue" over and over. what am i supposed to do? ive tried repartitioning it, and reformatting it, to no avail.

If you can load Windows 98, create a boot disk. Go to the control panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs, then the Startup disk tab. Insert a new formated diskette in the floppy drive and click Create Disk.

Boot the computer with that diskette, if successful, select Command prompt with CD support. Setup will assign a letter to your CD_ROM. Take note of that. At the prompt, first format the hard drive typing the following at the prompt:

    Format C: /u

Press Enter. Upon completion, insert the ME installation CD. At the prompt type the following:

    X:setup

Where X is the letter assigned to your CD_ROM. Press Enter and follow instructions on screen.

    I've tried that already, to no avail. here is a list of what shows up on the cd;

HP Pavilion System Recovery Disc 1 of 3:
    visible:
    COPYDISK.EXE
    BOOTCAT.BIN
    BOOTIMG.BIN
    BOOT.IMG
    STARTUP.IMG

    hidden:
    A.PAQ
    B.PAQ
    C.PAQ
    D.PAQ
    E.PAQ
    G.PAQ
    LST.ZIP

Then there is the HP Pavilion System Recovery Disc 2 of 3 and HP Pavilion Application Recovery Disc 3 of 3. I can list what is on those cds if anyone needs, but none of them have a setup.exe or install.exe.

i already used the steps outlined on that site, with no success. for some reason, the computer will not boot from the cd-rom first, even when i set the boot sequence to do so. i finally gave up and installed windows 98se (which was my original plan anyway), and i was able to use the cds to reinstall the drivers for the system, which was very nice
