Do you need a whole new computer? Mine is like 1.8 Ghz, and I think it's bottlenecking my 6600GT because I get some choppiness when playing half life 2 and CS:S. My FPS in video stress test was 75~ FPS
but I still get choppiness when there are firefights, and sometimes even just walking around

I dont play with others right now, just on my own with bots for the time until I get good. And the singular play is what I'm worrying about because it transfers over to other games like Half life 2 and Doom 3

So, would it be my processor? Or perhaps my ram? (512 MB PC3200)

I would think you should be able to run both pretty well.

Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93

You should also update the rest of the computer's drivers like chipset, and sound.
List what is all in the computer including the motherboard.

Also defrag the drive, it will help with drive access.

Then go to Start -> RUN -> type DXDIAG and run through the video and sound diagnostics.

Half Life 2:
Minimum Requirements

* 1.2 GHz Processor
* 256MB RAM
* DirectX 7 level graphics card
* Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

Recommended System

* 2.4 GHz Processor
* 512MB RAM
* DirectX 9 level graphics card
* Windows 2000/XP

So a faster CPU may help if you are running at the highest settings.

I'm not even close to running the game on high without lag, maybe 50% of the way there?
Anyway, heres my computer:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X v2.0 (5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 3 DDR DIMM)
Mobo Chipset: nVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400
RAM: 512MB PC3200 (DDR SDRAM)
BIOS: Award
Video: Geforce 6600GT
Sound: SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit
Hardrive: 80GB

All of the diagnostics worked in DXDIAG and I'm defragging right now

All your system specs are well above the recommended settings. Do not consider the XP 2500+ to be a 1.8Ghz CPU, it is as good as a 2.5Ghz CPU hence the 2500+ model number.

Your system is not setup right if it can run those games at medium settings. In DXDIAG did it say that the AGP was enabled?

You may wish to install the latest NFORCE drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10
And I'm assuming you have already installed the latest NVidia video card drivers from the link above?

Also update your Creative sound card drivers: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

Did you also remember to plug in the auxilory power connector into the video card?

Is your BIOS up to date?

Yeah I'm installing the NFORCE drivers now, and yeah I already got the video card stuff. There are no drivers for the sound card I have, and yes the auxilary power is plugged in.

I'm not sure where I can tell where the AGP is enabled or not, or how I can tell whether BIOS is up to date.

You can install ASUS update to check and update the BIOS for you: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/down..._id=0&m_id=1&f_name=Asusupdt60301.zip~zaqwedc

Update any Creative software that you have.

And to see if its something you're running:

Create a folder on your computer, anywhere you want, called Hijackthis. Into that folder download Hijackthis. Then extract it into that folder and run it. When you run it choose the 'Do a System Scan and Save a Log File'. Save the log and then copy and paste the contents of that log into your next post. Don't fix anything in the program yet.
