I have noticed when I boot up it takes about 5 minutes for my laptop to get to the desktop view. Can anyone help me to determine what programs I need running at start up and which ones are unnecessary.

Maybe I have a virus but am not sure.

    Thanks

Can you find most of them in the reference?

I have the control box but don't know what is what - the different tabs: HKCU / Run, Run Once, HKLM Run, Startup (user), Startup (comon)

I don't what is needed and what is not. This is all greek to me.

They are all programs that run at startup, the tabs are just different places in the registry.

Post HJT log and we can help you out.

    Go to this site http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download.

    Click on 'Download HijackThis Installer'.

*Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop, or to the location where you normally download.
    *Double-click on HJTInstall.exe.
    *Click on Install.
*By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
*Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
*Click on the 'Do a system scan and save a logfile button'. It will scan and the log will open in notepad.
*Click Save to save the log file.
*Click on 'Edit > Select All' then click on 'Edit > Copy' (or Ctrl-C) to copy the entire contents of the log.
*Come back to this thread and Paste (or Ctrl-V) the log in your next reply.

*DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

It looks like you might have a Trojan on your system http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X289967154020299796-X1/KXVO.EXE.html

You have an older version of HiJackThis installed, uninstall it, install the newer one from the link I gave you and post the log on the Malware Removal board.

Once you get that taken care and your system cleaned up you can trim down your startup programs.
