I am having trojan and virus problems. I have Bit Defender Plus on my machine, and it is failing to remove two different viruses on my computer. One is the Vundo and the other is listed as DeepScan:Generic.Malware.SYddldg.782B3AA4. The files are apparently protected and it can't quarantine or delete them. I ran the HiJack This program y'all mentioned. Here is the log. Please help!

Please move hijackthis.exe into a permanent folder.

To create a permanent folder click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar click on File, New, Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Put your HijackThis.exe into that folder.

Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Delete on Reboot.
Copy the following list of files to clipboard, CTRL+C to copy

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rsbmsc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qsaunyai.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svscache.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\terminals.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hdsvc.exe

Now in Killbox go to File, Paste from clipboard.
Click the All Files button.
Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
It will ask if you want to reboot now,
Click No.

Close Killbox.

Click Start - Run - and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find each of these, one at a time:

Print Spooler Service (heajr3so8yfzyyyy)
HID Output Service (HODSrv)
Service Cache Terminal (SVCTERM)
Terminal Connections (terms)

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
Exit the Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

Now restart the machine and post a new HJT log.

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Download (save) combofix from one of these two sites:
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please post a new hijackthis log with the log from combofix in your next reply.

Please empty the Norton Quarantine: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506

That will make the scans go much faster for you.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

When I rebooted my system, however, all kinds of virus warnings pop up from Bit Defender (Juan, Vundo--even after running VundoFix, DeepScan, etc.) Is it possible to get rid of all of this without reformatting?

Thanks, again, for all you are doing to help me out.

I would guess the warnings are coming from the files we have quarantined or moved.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7F5A2699-38CD-4B98-B193-5916D6566B01} -
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nnnmlkh.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C2FF5529-EE59-4730-BEC8-FA22711B7D16} -
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljk.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mlljk - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljk.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: nnnmlkh - nnnmlkh.dll (file missing)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
• Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
• Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows:
1. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
• Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
• Under "How to Scan?" check all (default).
• Under "Possibly unwanted software" check all (default).
• Under "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected (default).
• Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".
2. Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
4. When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button?

5. Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
6. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done, reboot normally and submit the log report in your next response.

Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. If Explorer or other programs are open during the scan that means certain files will also be in use. Some malware will insert itself and hide in areas that are "protected" by Windows when the files are being used. This can hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.

Note: If AVG Anti-Spyware "crashes" or "hangs" during the scan, try scanning again by doing this:
1. Scan one sector of the system at a time by using the "Custom Scan" feature. To do this select Scanner > Custom Scan and click on Add drive/directory/file. Browse to C:\Windows > System, add this folder to the list and click on "Start Scan". When the scan is complete, repeat the Custom Scan but this time, browse to and add the System32 folder. Then keep repeating this procedure until all your folders have been scanned. Make sure you include the Documents & Settings folder.

2. If this still does not help, then turn the ADS scanner off while making a Custom Scan. To do this select Scanner > Scan Settings and untick "Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams". Then repeat the steps above for performing a Custom Scan.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {05569885-1014-4498-B269-CFCBD25028B7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljk.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7F5A2699-38CD-4B98-B193-5916D6566B01} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nnnmlkh.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mlljk - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljk.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: nnnmlkh - nnnmlkh.dll (file missing)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Restart the machine and post another HJT log.

Are you having any problems now?

I have repeatedly run HJT and clicked on those 4 boxes to remove them. I ran task manager and stopped everything but system applications that denied me access and yet those files continue to show up in the HJT log. I am also still getting the pop-up boxes from bit defender saying it is finding the viruses but they stopped them from infecting my computer. I also occassionally have a bunch of virus messages popping up from a folder called "Recycler", that I have tried to delete but am denied access.

Here is my new log:

Recycler is part of Norton Utilities so you may want to disable that until you get the machine fixed.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy the entire contents of the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
• Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
• Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
• Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
• Click Done
• Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
• It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

Try fixing the entries with hijackthis again.

Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh hijackthis log.

This seems to have done the trick. It didn't show up anymore and no pop-up from Bit Defender either.

I did go ahead and delete Norton Systemworks (as I wasn't really using it anymore since I have Bit Defender). I noticed that the Recycler folder has stayed put. Is there anyway to delete it? I have tried, but I keep getting denied access.

Thanks, again, for all your help.

Here are the new logs.
