Just curious if anyone else have experienced this with the loading of I-tunes, and what followed which was Qttask and Bonjour Service.

After install it really dragged my system down, so I have prevented them from starting in MSCONFIG startup and services, but I just discovered that it apparently shut off my windows firewall and autoupdate functions. Not only did it shut down those important functions, I-Tunes and Bonjour added there-selves to the exceptions list on the firewall. I've unchecked them from the exceptions list. I know I had the autoupdate and firewall on and didn't personally turn them off. Wow, scary... I dealt with qttask in the past on a different win98 computer and it was evil to keep in check. Any comments, you might check your settings...

This is indicative of the general arrogance of Apple and the way in which it wants to take over your system. Stopping all the Apple related processes from starting automatically at boottime is the only answer here and you've already done that.

I'm not sure how pernicious Apple is in that department but if you run Trendmicro's HijackThis, Scan with it and tick to remove anything Apple related and particularly those in the 023 entries, you will be a little safer. If you have no specific malware concerns, there's no need to post the log back here.

    Saga Lout,

Well, no overwhelming issues with my computer................... but qttasks has added itself to my computers startup list again with this start-up, "as per my msconfig" as i do follow msconfig, qt must of just added itself and I can only assume a restart will allow it to run as it "qt" is not running now. Had this with a win98 machine and qttask just kept adding itself. Here is a peek at the HJT log.

You can have HijackThis "Fix" the following entry:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

And by the way, you should take care of that Symantec leftover before it causes weird issues... Run the Norton Removal Tool.

I gave it a shot regarding the QT issue, and will look into it's results. I am very interested in the symantec left-over. Always been on Kapersky.....

    Thank You :)

ps I may have a rogue QT start-up entry, but I have to give it a look.

    Hmm,

That took out the QT "checked startup option" in my startup list. The QT "unchecked" option is still there. Bizarre.

    Here a newbie HJT

Kind of a new twist, with the O23 entries, I bought this computer a while back, talking about more than two years, but above the symantec entry, there is the HP entry. I don't even have a printer, but that is what HP does....

    Just a curious observation.

It's quite possible that you actually had two QuickTime Task entries in msconfig. If you do have QuickTime on your computer, it's normal to have that entry (now unchecked).

Well, I understand that very well.

Quicky scenario, any APPLE related stuff never existed on me compter, but had a friend who was selling his new album in the I-Tunes Store. Of course I downloaded I-tunes, but that really took over my computer.

With that, I inherited in the startup list, iTunesHelper.exe and qttask.exe. Then in the Services section I inherited Apple Mobile Device, Bonjour Service, IPod Service. I unchecked all of that, but it concerns me that QT can just re-add it'self to the startup.

Additionally, after the I-Tunes Install, it for sure disabled my Windows Firewall and added Bonjour Service and iTunes to the exceptions list in the Firewall. I do also have to wonder if it disabled the Windows Critical Update, tho, that could be a "my bad"
