one of the reasons i wanted xp pro was for remote desktop. but i just cant make it work. what should i do. right now on the client computer(in network neighborhood (win 98 by the way)) i see the host computer's name. when i try to open it it asks for a password. i put in what i think it should be, but it brings back invalid password. have no idea what to do now

If you're talking about remote desktop sharing, i believe both systems need to have XP on them.

You could consider something like UltraVNC or tightVNC, both free remote console utilities that are very good packages.

You are trying to access the shares of the remote computer, which doesn't work for some computers, If you give me the details of the pasword prompt, I can go find the info for you. As for Remote Desktop, you need a copy of the Remote Desktop Connection Software. I have the same problem with connecting via Network Neiborhood (98) to my XP machine, and I forgot the Knowledge base article about it.
