So basically my mom got this old used laptop and its running Ubuntu as its operating system. My step dad wants to use this laptop for school or something so we need to use Windows op. Is there anything i can use to get the original Op system back onto this laptop or would i just have to go buy Windows from the store or something?
Or are there any free operating systems that i can download and support Microsoft Office?

p.s. sorry if i posted this in the wrong section

Why? What is wrong with Ubuntu and OpenOffice?

1) Check if the laptop has a working Recovery Partition.
2) Has the laptop got a Windows sticker on it? That way you can install from any appropriate Windows disk (beg, borrow) and use the Windows sticker number as the Product Key number.
3) LAST recourse, buy Windows.

Agree with Arochester. Ubuntu and Open Office can do everything Windows offers But there is nothing stopping you from re-installing Windows on it

Both MS Windows and MS office will cost money to buy.

Ubuntu give you everything free! and its Open Office will read/write all your MS office files.
