I've had my dvd-rom drive for aout 10 months and it has always worked fine. But now when I turn on my computer, the screen freezes on the emachines logo for a really long time and continually trys to read the disk. A fter it does this for a long time, it starts up normally. After it finishes starting up, it will not read anything in the drive and trys to read it over and over. I've found that when I turn on the computer without a disk in, it loads normally, but it still will not read anything. I've tried updating the drivers and cleaning the laser eye (and one particular incident involved me taking the entire thing apart...lol) I really want this thing to work again!!

any help will be appreciated,

David

Well, it sounds like the drive has died. One final test would be to try it in another computer, that would be my next step.

I've seen drives of all flavors die after 10 minutes, and others have lasted until they're obsolete. Yep, it's quite possible for a drive of any kind to die in 10 months.
