I just bought the new motherboard with new parts but not hard disk.
I am still using the old IDE Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm hard disk.
After all the connection applied, although the pc has detected the hd, but finally failed to boot in to my windows xp.

Is IDE hard disk cannot be used in new motherboard? My motherboard is MSI-7270 K9N-U.

    Thanks.

    Howdy,

If you put a Hard drive into a new Motherboard with a Operating System on it it will not work unless the motherboard is exactly the same as the one it was formatted on.

You will have to re-install the Operating System while it is on that Motherboard for it to Recognize it.
