I want to build a computer, AMD preferably, with 4 IDE drives, but the ASUS motherboards I am considering have only 1 IDE channel on the motherboard.

The computer will run Win XP Pro SP2.

Somewhere, I read that it is not a good idea to put 2 optical IDE drives on the same ribbon cable.

    2. If I use an IDE controller card, in a PCI slot, can I boot to 1 of the drives on said card?

    Thanks for your help.

not sure about your second question but I've always put my optical drives on one cable and never had an issue.
