I'm running IE 5.0 and this problem has been hounding me for the past year. It doesn't happen all the time, neither can I nail it down to specific sites. What happens is this: before a page finishes loading or right at the point when it has finished, it immediatly jumps foward to display the banner ad as an image by itself. So when it is done, all i have to look at is the banner ad. I can press the back button to get back to the page I wanted to be at. This will work as long as it doesn't jump foward again. If I am fast enough, I can hit the Stop button in time for it to stop and not jump foward.

Has anyone ever seen this problem before? If so, does the latest version of IE fix it? I'm not a bleeding edge kinda guy, so I tend to stick with the older versions until I have to upgrade....or maybe I'm just lazy :p

Have you tried repairing I/E? Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add & Remove Programs/Miscrsoft Internet Explorer. Highlight and click Remove. You will be given an option to repair. After the reboot, it may be fixed.

Dang! Just as I was thinking that the problem was fixed, it went and did it again. I had about 6 browsers open at the time. The 6th one was the one that kept doing it. I closed three of them and now I'm able to get to (and stay at) this page with the first browser that I had opened up. This seems to be a problem if I have too many browser windows open at the same time.

ok, never mind what I said about the first browser window being stable. It's not. I popped over to monster.com and it quickly wisked me away to the following address:

    http://ads.monster.com/html.ng/site=mons&app=www&size=313x163&pp=1

Of course I got a 404 error page, it didn't even have the common curtisy to show me the ad it fowarded to. :(

    Hiya

You say that you have version 5, but have you got any of the patches or updates? Go here and see if you have any to get:

    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Also, lets clean you up a bit. Go to Tools | Internet Options. General tab, under Delete Files, delete offline content. Also, delete the History.
Go to the Advanced tab, and under Browsing look for Enable Install ON demand. Untick that.
Under Security, look for Empty Tempory Internet Files.... Tick that, apply and OK.

    Also, empty the dat files:

Also, it may be something in your startup. Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

    Regards
