IE6 won't display pages ... unless I have proxy conn running... I am having a problem posting this thread through IE, now I am trying through Netscape... If I wouldn't have Netscape on this machine I wouldn't be able to access the net.... Would I be better off with My2 browser? I have the Avanti browser on but that won't work either if I don't have proxy conn running... Hope you can help me...

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and scroll to your IE
program. Click on it and you should see a radio box that says,
"repair internet explorer".

Click on it and repair and reboot. See if this helps you.

Have you scanned for spyware? If not, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware (you can use them both.) Let whichever one you choose clean up any spyware it finds.

If that doesn't fix things, get the CoolWebSearch removal tool, CWShredder and run it (link to the download is near the bottom of the page).

If you're still having problems, your computer may be infected with Qhosts. A removal tool can be download here.

None of these suggestions helped...

I have already run spybot and ad aware before I even posted this problem ... I tried the qhost... none found and I did the shredder but that didn't help either.. but the shredder did help to get rid of the smiley tool bar... Thanks for that!!

"the repair button" doesn't show up in my add/remove... I am running xp home..

Try this:
go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
