Hello,

I am unable to connect to the Internet with IE 6, but Firefox 1.5 works fine. Pc-Cillin also does NOT connect for upgrades. Another oddity is that FTP connections in IE 6 seem to work fine.

Through another forum, I found out that if I open a webpage through My Computer, it also connects just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

Truthiswithin

A firewall, yes, Pc-cillin, but even if I remove pc-cillin or disable the firewall, no go. Thanks for your suggestion. I wish I could remember what I did to start this silly problem.

Another thing, Spy-bot Search and Destroy is able to update itself, but Pc-cillin is not. Very strange!

Winsockfix was not available at the site you linked to, so I found it elsewhere and ran it. No go. Then I ran sfc /scannow, and I don't know which one it was, but suddenly my computer was not functioning. I've removed the Intel Wireless driver, as that seemed to fix things temporarily, and didn't seem to affect my wireless internet connection. Afraid to reboot, though :D And still no go.

Thanks for the help, please let me know if there is anything else you can think of.

Best wishes,

Truthiswithin

Dear Brendan,

Thank you, I got it from http://www.nthelp.com/50/winsockfix.htm

I'm embarassed to say that I didn't check the website thoroughly before downloading it, but I did run a virus scan on it before running the fix. Anyway, I had already run the same program before, only didn't realize it. Can't remember where I got it from the first time, but it didn't work anyway :(

Dear Brendan,

IE 6 is not working (except through My Computer or for FTP), and Pc-cillin upgrade is not working.

Do you have your Windows CD?
Try putting it in and going to Start>>Run>>sfc /scannow
It will check for missing files, let it replace them and see if it works.

Thanks, but I've already done that a few times, along with IEfix and a bunch of other utils :) sfc didn't like my touchpad driver, and halted. When I rebooted there was an error in the svchost file, and now it comes up every time I reboot. From bad to worse!
