When I try to go into IE it freezes for about a minute then works o.k., I've run a full virus scan using Mcafee and got all windows 200 updates from the MS site, can someone help me please? I can post a list from hijackthis if that will help?

Give us some more info... What OS. How much RAM.

It would also be helpful if you would run a scan with HiJackThis (HJT) and post it here. That will tell us a lot about your system configuration. The HJT scan itself is harmless. Here's how to do that.

First, create a folder in C:\Program Files and label it HiJackThis. This is where you will download This executable file. This is also the folder where your HJT backups will be stored.

Close all windows, including this and any other browser windows. Launch HJT and click the Scan button. When the scan is finished, the Scan button will have changed to Save Log. Click that and save the log to your HJT folder. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING YET. Most of the listed items are harmless or even essential. Wait for recommendations from someone trained in HJT log file interpretation.

Now open the saved log file... In the toolbar at the top of the window under Edit, select Select All. Copy (Ctrl+C) the text and paste (Ctrl+V) it into a reply in this thread.

You have a CoolWebSearch parasite on your computer. I advise the following steps.

First download CWShredder. Unzip it. Close all windows, including browser. Launch CWShredder and click the Fix button (NOT Scan). Let it do it's thing.

Reboot your computer

Next, download Spybot S&D. Install Spybot, open it and click the Search for Updates button. When updates are found, put a check mark next to all and click the Download Updates button. Now click the Search & Destroy icon in the left pane, then the Check for problems button at the bottom of the window. When the scan completes, check all the items in RED, then click the Fix Selected Problems button.

Reboot your computer

Next, download AdAware. Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning Engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click Proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next)

Reboot your computer.

Post a new HJT scan

Log looks good except for one last object..

Before you use HJT to remove the object, you need to get the HJT file off your desktop and into it's own permanent folder on your C: drive. Create a folder labeled HiJackThis and move the HiJackThis.exe file into it. This is also where your HJT backups will be stored.

Now close all windows, including this and other browser windows. Run a new HJT scan and put a check beside the object below. click Fix Checked

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/24d0e30...ip/RdxIE601.cab

When finished, restart your computer.

You can run a new HJT scan and post it for final review, but I think you will be OK now.

I advise the following preventive measures to prevent reinfection.

I note you have McAfee AV, but I'm not familiar enough to know whether your McAfee also includes a firewall. If not, I strongly recommend you have a firewall. There are a couple of good free ones available for downloading. ZoneAlarm Here, and Sygate Here.

You already have Spybot installed. It has an Immunize feature which will stop a lot of nasties from being installed on your computer. To activate it, open Spybot and click the Immunize icon in the left pane. Now click the Immunize button in the right pane.

Next, download SpyWareBlaster Here. Install it and open the program. Click the Check for Updates button and download the latest updates. Now clickselect All then the Protect Against Checked Items. This program will now be running in the background and adding to the protection provided by Spybot's Immunize feature for ActiveX nasties.

Next, download IE-SPYAD Here. Follow the installation instructions on the site. This little item will install a TON of URL's in IE's Restricted sites list, thereby preventing your computer from accessing known bad sites from which nasties can be installed.
