I've got a question more of aesthetics that pure function, yet it is something that's bothering me.

I recently had the Coolwwwsearch and SearchV hijack. During all this, the IE desktop icon has changed from the "e" by MS to a generic program icon. When I right click and select Properties, there is no where to reset that icon. Instead, it brings up the Internet Properties dialog box. All other functionality seems to be there.

Any idea how I can get my old icon back? Thanks!!

In the control panel, double click display. Once the Display Properties window comes up, click on the Desktop tabsheet.
Then click on Customize Desktop. Try clicking on "Restore Default", if that doesn't work then you're going to need to click on "Change Icon" and search for your ie icon.

Restoring the defaults didn't work for the icon problem. When I clkick "properties for that icon, I don't get a change icon option because it goes to the Internet Properties funciton.

In IE5.5 there is an option to 'show IE on desktop'.

    Go to
    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced

Or with IE running, click on Tools>Internet Options>Advanced.

In the Browsing section there is a line that says something like

'Show Internet Explorer on the Desktop'

If this is already Checked, try unchecking and then recheck.
That worked when my IE Icon disappeared.

    Hope this helps.
