It is annoying that while I am browsing in Firefox, IE will randomly open a window. I don't know what else it may do, because as soon as it opens, I click to close it. Sometimes I get a security window asking if I want to add the Yahoo toolbar. I always click don't allow on it.
Does anyone else have this happen? Is there a fix for it? IE is not my default browser.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is an annoying occurrence.
    Thank you in advance.
(Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I am new here.)

    This does sound rather worrying.
Does it happen when you're looking at anything in particular, or equally whatever site your using?
Has anything changed recently that might have caused this to arise?
Could you let it load and find out what it actually wants to take you to.

I have not noticed it happening at any particular time. When it opens, it is on the Yahoo home page, which is my default homepage in Firefox.
Nothing has changed recently. I almost exclusively use the laptop just for web browsing.

Check whether Internet Explorer is running?
Go to the task manager by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC.
    Look for iexplore.exe

It is not running. The only thing close to it in the processes is explorer.exe

Explorer.exe is a very different thing entirely, that's the program that provides your desktop, start menu, and folder navigation.

Let's see whether we can find out what's opening IE.
Please download Process Explorer from Microsoft.
Copy the files out of the zip into a normal folder.
When internet explorer opens (and without closing it) open process explorer (procexp.exe)
See what iexplorer is listed under. See the example screenshot: I opened internet explorer using the command line so iexplorer is listed under (meaning just to the right of) cmd.exe.

Do you have anything from Yahoo on your computer?

Nothing that I am aware of. I know when IE opens randomly, it asks about adding the Yahoo toolbar, and I click no each time.

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
    2- Run the program.
3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.
4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.
5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.
6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

    For Windows 7 and Vista:

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, run HijackThis as Administrator or disable the UAC first.

    Insure the UAC is disabled.

    Run HijackThis again.

Select Do a system scan only.

Check the following entries from Yahoo all showing in IE:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: YTNavAssist.YTNavAssistPlugin Class - {81017EA9-9AA8-4A6A-9734-7AF40E7D593F} - C:\PROGRA~2\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\YTNavAssist.dll

    Click Fix checked.
