    Hi!

I'm trying to install service pack on a machine running Windows XP. I first tried to install it from Windows Update but that didn't work, no error message just said that it couldn't be installed. So then I downloaded the pack from Microsoft's website and tried to install it using the msi.

The installation then generated a message saying:

    "Service Pack 3 Setup Error
The file ie4uinit.exe is missing from the Service Pack 3 installation.
The file must be present for Service Pack 3 Setup to continue.

    Press OK to cancel Setup."

So.. Can anyone help me out with this problem?

What version of service pack are you using now? R u trying to upgrade from sp1 to sp3?

To determine the version the service pack you are using
    1.Click Start
    2.Right click on My Computer
    3.Go to properties
    4.Go to General Tab

Go here to download and save the full 316 MB SP3 upgrade.

Uninstall or disable any antivirus/antispyware/antimalware programs that are running.

Double-click the saved file to install the SP3 upgrade.

Why not try downloading sp3 from HERE
since it should be currupt package that you already downloaded and then restart your computer and boot the computer in safe mode and install the sp3 from there

That's the same 316 MB file that I provided in post #6.

My advice, forget about Sp3 if your system is an older one, it will give you nothing meaningful and can create many problems if the system isn't perfect.

I agree. If you've got XP SP2 installed and have kept up with all the post-SP2 and post-SP3 high priority updates, you're fine.

Once Microsoft stops providing high priority updates for XP SP2 at Windows Update, you can manually obtain them from Microsoft Download Center.
