Running IE6 on Win 98 Recently I noticed my web browser seemed slow. I checked the settings. Temp Internet Files. Amount of disc space to use is set to 0. Have tried adjusting it but it will not change. I then tries using the Internet Explorer Repair Tool Accessories->System Tools->System Information->Tools-> Explorer Repair. But still not joy. Any suggestions.

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results

How does your available hard drive space look? I always put the temp files on another drive from the OS drive and it seems to help a lot. I also turn off all history.

Thanks to you both. My hard disc has 15gb spare so that is not the problem. As for Hikack This. What is it? Sounds dangerous

    Hi raydgw,

Hijack this is a program that we use here to identify registry hacks accociated with spy and adware. It also tends to show up virii, trojans etc. It's perfectly safe. If you ahve a browse through the security threads here you will see it used in almost all of them.

    Cheers

    Liam

    Do this in order:

    1) Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> delete cookies, delete files (select off-line content), clear history. Then click ok and exit Internet Explorer.

    2) Read http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/index1.html then download and run SpyBot. Make sure to get the updates for SpyBot before you have it scan your computer. After you scan and remove anything SpyBot finds, make sure to click the Immunize button and OK and then click the Immunize button in the right pane.

    3) Run one of the following free Anti-Virus programs here:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com - I found this to work the best.

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan

    http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan

    4) Re-post HiJAckThis log.

Another note : You have a lot of resources being used on account of your startup folder. McAfee is a big resource using program as well as real player..

Tried it but sadly no joy. So gave up and took the monster into a computer repair shop. Hopefully they will sort it out. Thanks again for trying to help.
