I'm a new member....i think if you look at my name you will see i am not an expert when it comes to computers.....

I have a windows vista lap top....up to a few days ago, i was using ie8....i received an auto download message from microsoft....and agreed to the download....it was a package of 5 different downloads that took a while to complete. So i went on to other business....

It turns out, one of the five items was an installation of internet explorer 9.....when i saw that, i immediately tried to uninstall....after an hour of trying without success....i got in touch with a certified microsoft company....they told me they could fix the problem....well, after 2 days they couldn't....it turns out, the auto dowload ie9 was corrupt....

I called microsoft and they told me they could fix it, but it would cost $99!

I wonder if anyone else received a similar auto dowload on 2/21????

Or if anyone knows how to fix????

    Thanks for your help....

I'd stick with IE9 if I were you. IE8 is already outdated and a lot of websites, including Google, aren't supporting it anymore.

Firstly....I don't like the idea that the file is corrupted and I can't choose to keep it or delete it...

Secondly....I don't like the way it formats web pages, compared to IE8...

    Thanks anyway!

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

    Type regedit

    Press Enter.

    Browse to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Expand Uninstall by clicking on the "+" sign.

    Scroll down the list.

    Can you find ie9?

If so, click it and look in the right pane.

    Can you see UninstallString?

    If so, double-click it.

Copy the value and paste it into your next reply.

If no luck, go inside the registry again.

    Under Uninstall.

Click on the many long character strings between { }.

For each one of them, look in the right pane for the name of the application or the update.

If you find IE9, look for UninstallString again and let me know what it is.
