dell is the best for the money. Ibm is the best but most expensive. I personally think toshiba makes damn good laptops though. They're not cheap though.

I have never owned a laptop; but, all three of my sons do. One of my sons gets a new one about every two years and in some cases, sooner than that. They all have owned several brands; but, after going through several brands, they all swear by Toshiba and will buy nothing else.

But, as has already been said, they aren't cheap.

Some advice: Laptops are largely unrepairable after the warranty period. I advise an extended warranty. And don't get one of those junk warranties by a third-party provider. Get the real warranty from the original manufacturer with service by the original manufacturer.

Other warranty providers will use substandard parts to replace your high quality parts in almost all cases.

yeah, and to add to the note about warranties...Dell offers an accidental damage warranty and I highly recommend it. You can 'accidentally' run over it with your car they'll send you a brand new one.

I ALWAYS buy warranties, and ALWAYS get the accidental damage warranty (if I can - unsure about the one I just bought off of ebay, it still does have a warranty though)

What are you going to be doing? If your gaming on it get an Alienware, it blows all those other brands away. Like my SIG says "Dude don't get a Dell,(well since you can't build your own laptop) get an Alienware." And if your not playing games try the Compaq stuff it comes with AMD and wireless internet stuff. Don't search for much Laptop stuff so I can't give any model names out, other then the Alienware Area 51.

Well, it's not going to be a heavy gaming machine. I have a monster tower I use for that kind of stuff. I'll never buy compaq computers, unless they somehow get much better.

I'd go with Alienware. But i Have never been able to afford one, I know they r the best. and If not, Go with a Toshiba Sattelite or something. NO COMPAQ!

"well since you can't build your own laptop"

Have you ever ordered the components separately and built your OWN laptop? If you have/did, you wasted a lot of money/time as it's cheaper and more advisable to buy a pre-built one.
